What coaching is:
Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance.  It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them. (Timothy Gallwey, Harvard educationalist and tennis expert)

Good coaching, and for that matter, good mentoring, should take the performer beyond the limitations of the coach or mentor’s own knowledge. (Sir John Witmore, Coaching for Performance)

To be effective, a coach needs full support of the Owner/Director.  A coach needs to be patient, detached, supportive, perceptive, a good listener, aware, self-aware, attentive and retentive.

A coach does not need to have experience or technical knowledge in the area in which they are coaching, if the coach is truly acting as a detached awareness raiser. (Sir John Whitmore)

Business coaching has three main components:

  • Taking you out of the day-to-day of running your business and making you think about your objectives and how to get there.
  • Having a third party (your coach) look at your business, your goals and your ideas unburdened by what you know already (or what you think you know but perhaps are just assuming).
  • Using a structured and methodical system to analyse your business (and you) and to guide you (through the program) as to what to do to aim at your goals and address the things holding you back.

How we Coach:

The fundamental purpose of coaching is to raise the awareness of the person being coached and increase motivation to take responsibility; thus improving productivity.

  • Agreeing the goal for each session as well as the length of the session and long-term objectives.
  • Checking reality to explore the current situation.
  • Determining options and alternative strategies or courses of action for improvement.
  • Agreeing what is to be done, when, by whom and creating the will to do it.
